It details, in depth and well-backed by research, the way in which American school systems are tailored to white middle class cultures and values and the ways in which this is exclusionary to students of other backgrounds, and how that can be detrimental. Luckily, the inclusion of practical strategies to make a classroom more inclusive to diverse cultures and backgrounds prevents this from being too much of a downer.
